This morning we went to the zoo with Scarlett… which was a bit of a failed mission. Scarlett was not interested in the animals in the slightest, which surprised me because she loves animals. I think they were a bit too far away and abstract for her. She just wanted to run around, but because Wellington Zoo is so hilly, she promptly fell over and grazed her little knees, and spent the rest of the time in Mum’s Ergo, paying zero attention to the animals. Just as we were about to give up and go home, she fell asleep. Poor little monkey – I think we’ll try the zoo again when she’s a bit older 🙂
After her nap, she enjoyed doing some pretending “cookEE” (cooking) with Dad outside in nana’s little courtyard garden. Very adorable to watch the two of them playing together!
After her evening bath, just before Mum and Dad went out to see in the new year, Aunty Mary grabbed my camera and snapped a couple of pictures of me and my monkey. They aren’t stunning of me but I love them anyway because that moment when I get her out of the bath and she’s all wet and naked in my arms has always been a bit special to me 🙂
And so – I made it! Three hundred and sixty six days of photos! I will do a nice big summary and reflection post another time, for now I will just say that this photo a day project has literally changed my life, it is the best thing I’ve ever done (well, apart from create an awesome human being that is!) and – the show must go on! I will be continuing on for a second year of the project. I hope you continue to enjoy watching the growth of a gorgeous girl… and the growth of a photographer!
Omigod, get these people off me! 😛
Last night, nana did a spot of babysitting while Mum and Dad had some long overdue Mummy and Daddy time out on the town – was lovely to spend some time together and relax with a few drinks. But it was also lovely to arrive back home this morning to a very excited little girl who ran straight over to mummy for a cuddle and then leaned over to give dada a kiss 🙂
So we just spent a lovely quiet day hanging out with the monkey at home today – reading, chilling, and playing with cellotape!
Jumping with Dad!
“Aw bidta!” (=bedtime) for Fat Cat and Jamal
Scarlett seems to have had a sudden leap in her ability to copy words in the last couple of days. Grandma showed her the joy of doing pretending “cooking” with bowls and spoons and now she will grab a container and sit there going “cookEE cookEE cookEE!” (translation = cooking :-P) So cool!
I’m just a little bit in love with this photo, of Scarlett with the teddy bear that her grandma has had all her life 🙂 There is something about it that is very very special to me 🙂
Today we went on a road trip out to Himatangi Beach to visit a lovely friend who has a daughter the same age as Scarlett. Was a rather grey, miserable day but a totally lovely visit, and I even managed to catch up with a wonderful old uni friend at the same time. Very good to see good friends 🙂
Scarlett thought this giant toy cat at Grandma’s house looked like the perfect ride on toy. In fact, she kept pressing its ear to try and make it neigh like the rocking horse at her friend’s house! Funny girl! She also enjoyed playing with her new flash cards… especially the picture of a cat 😛
Today is Boxing Day and it’s a lazy one – just chillin out reading books with grandma and doing some drawing. Scarlett has just discovered drawing and is enjoying practicing 🙂
Christmas Day is upon us!
And Santa didn’t disappoint! By Santa, I do of course mean Grandma. I saw a onesie in Target once that said “Who needs Santa when you have Grandma?” I think that is pretty accurate!
Bubba enjoyed it much more than she did last year, when she was only 4 months old. She helped rip the wrapping paper and enjoyed her presents, but it all got a bit overwhelming after a while. We kept heaps of presents still wrapped to give to her over the next few days.
She really did enjoy the gifts she got though 🙂 Her favourites were: a pink hairbrush with her name on it from Mum, a fat cat toy from Dad (“awwww bidta!”… translation = “awww bedtime”… fat cat comes on TV in Australia at 730 pm when it’s time for girls and boys to go to bed), a Playmobil motorbike with a little man from Grandma, and a little handbag with a cat that sits in it, also from Grandma.
We had a fantastic Christmas roast lunch made by my mum, absolutely delicious! We were so stuffed that we had dessert for dinner! But what a dessert – chocolate and raspberry trifle – yummo!
This is Grandma’s stocking for Scarlett. Yes, all for Scarlett. She must have been very good this year.
With one of her favourite presents.
New shoes! A gift from daycare.
This Christmas stuff is exhausting!
Grandma’s delicious trifle!
Today we flew from Sydney to Wellington and Scarlett got to see her grandma and aunties for the first time since she was 6 months old! It was great so see them all reaquaint with one another 🙂 She is a very loved little girl 🙂
At Sydney airport in the morning, I bought Scarlett a scone for breakfast. She shunned the scone and proceeded to eat the butter straight out of the pottle using the handle of a plastic knife. Nice one bubba!
Today was our full day in Sydney. In the morning we attempted a nice brunch on Darling Harbour – instead it was a game of tag team, trying to scoff some food down before it was your turn to run after the monster, who was intent on investigating the fountain, wandering into the chocolate shop and chasing after and shouting at the seagulls!
She seemed sleepy after all that, so we postponed a trip to the aquarium and went home instead. Naturally, she then didn’t go down for a nap for about another three hours! So we just had some chill out time in our lovely hotel. Luckily, the aquarium was open late, so we headed down after bubba woke up from her nap.
Not so luckily, it turned out Scarlett was really not that interested in the aquarium! She gave a few obligatory “wow!”s… but really the things she loved most about it were running down the ramp ways and the little blue lights on the walls to light the way lol!
Chasing seagulls on Darling Harbour!
Nap time for everyone!
This is perfection. Sigh.
Today is the first day of our holiday – the mission day… our first flight of the trip! To be honest, it was a nightmare. I used to LOVE travelling and flying. But flying with a baby is NOT fun. Especially not flying four hours with a very active toddler.
But we survived and FINALLY made it to our lovely serviced apartment in central downtown Sydney just in time to flop on the bed and order some DELICIOUS burgers from room service, while bubba enjoyed munching on the hot chips.
It’s a holiday… but not as I used to know it!
